Spring Break Week 1 (March 13-20) aka In The Sick House

On Thursday, I commented to U how Sarah's first week of Spring Break was almost over and we haven't done anything.  Well, we've made a few trips to the doctor and Walgreens, but those weren't the places I'd been hoping to go.  Oh well!  Here's what happened sickness-wise:
  • U has been sick since a week ago Tuesday.  We thought he was getting better, but then Sunday and Monday he wasn't doing well again.  Tuesday, he finally went to the doctor and found out he has a sinus infection.  Once he started taking some antibiotics, he improved very quickly.
  • Sarah started getting a cough on Saturday night.  She told U then that he was getting her sick and apparently she was right.  Her main symptom was a cough.  When I took Megan to the doctor on Tuesday, they added Sarah to the appointment because of her cough.  Turns out she has an ear infection.  Unlike U, she actually got worse before getting better--lots of sneezing and coughing and a runny nose.  She even had a fever a few nights which normally doesn't happen.
  • Megan woke up Tuesday with a high fever (103.7) so I made an appointment to bring her into the doctor.  She had a little bit of crackling in her lungs--kind of like a pneumonia.  The next day she sounded a little wheezy .  We weren't sure if she was actually wheezing or just congested and wanted to know so I added her to Matthew's appointment.  Turns out she was both.  She got a breathing treatment there and we've been doing them at home since then.
Megan getting a breathing treatment at home.  We figure they must help since she usually sits quietly during them.  She even falls asleep sometimes (as does U).

  • Matthew started acting abnormal Tuesday night.  He cried really loud and hard.  I have some loud, hard criers but he isn't one so it was a little concerning especially since he did it multiple times.  He also wasn't eating well.  U finally got him to eat by using a syringe give him Pedialyte.  He screamed the whole time U did this but at least it got some food in him.  He started eating better.  (U says it is because he didn't want to eat via syringe again.)  However, midday Wednesday he starting the crying again so in we went to the doctor's.  He checked out well.  Thursday he had a low-grade fever but since we'd already been to the doctor the day before, we just watched him.

For those who are wondering, the kids' current weights are Sarah 40 lb, Megan 18 lb 1 oz and Matthew 10 lb 10 oz.

We did actually do some fun things around the house this week like play some games, watch movies and go on walks (got to take advantage of the "cool" 90 degree weather!).  Here are a few of the other happenings around our house:
  • Megan and Sarah put on their swimsuits.  Sarah ran through the sprinklers and Megan got her feet put in the water.
  • Sarah was getting herself a snack of applesauce and Cheerios one day.  She set the applesauce down funny and it fell onto the floor.  Applesauce went flying everywhere.  What a mess!  She did a good job cleaning up the floor.
  • On St Patrick's Day, Sarah told us how leprechauns come knock on the door and then you have to go find their hat which will have candy in it (this is what happened last year at preschool).  Sarah was sure a leprechaun had knocked on our door and spent a good part of the day looking for the hat in our house.  Once daddy got home from work, they went looking outside together and were able to find the hat.  After getting the candy out of it, we put the hat back where it was found so the leprechaun could retrieve it.

  • Sarah threw up a couple times (not sure why for sure but ear infections can cause it, so maybe that's why) so we had her eat food that was easy on her stomach for a day.  When there weren't any further issues, she went back to her normal diet.  One night at dinner after she'd been eating normal for the rest of the day, she wanted to know if salad was easy on the stomach.  I told her it was fine for her to eat.  I'm not sure if she really wanted to know or if she was just hoping it would get her out of eating salad for dinner.
  • For Family Home Evening, we talked about temples.  Then we each built our own using little Rice Krispie squares.

  • When Megan and Matthew had their fevers, we kept them in just their diaper around the house so they wouldn't overheat more.  Sarah decided that if they got to do it, so should she.  I informed her that if she didn't want her clothes on, she needed to stay in her bedroom.  She thought this was unfair, but decided to stay clothed.  Oh the joys of growing up--you have to wear clothes!
  • Sarah did some photos of Matthew on her couch.  Here's a cute one:
  • Sarah is learning about homonyms at school and is asking us all the time if words are homonyms.  Some ones we have "discovered" at home are dear/deer, bow/beau, know/no, do/dew/due and knew/gnu/new.
  • We had a family dinner with everyone awake!

There's a lot about Sarah in here.  I guess that's what happens when she's not at school for 7 hours of the day.  We're sure glad to have her home!
