May 2025

Sarah, Champion and Lionheart stayed with us for a night the beginning of the month.

Lionheart loves walking if you hold his hands.

The kids' school had an open house at the school one evening. Lots of clubs and classes had information and activities for the community.
The jazz band played.

Matthew's geometry project. We picked it out right away because of the name "Henwy" which was the name of his VEX robot last year.

Megan's geometry project.

Matthew playing the drum set.

Megan filled this out about Me.

Megan also made Me this lovely bouquet of flowers.

Matthew's passion project for social studies. There are fiber optics that show how air pollution travels on the world map.

Megan's passion project about how to use recycled plastics as art.

One morning, there was a knock at the door and a couple of firemen let Me know that there was a natural gas leak in the neighborhood. The leak happened when the people installing fiber internet hit a gas line although they were not sure where the leak was. While they were working on pinpointing and fixing the leak, she needed to leave. Me had not noticed the smell but once the firemen came by, she did both in the house and outside, although it was stronger outside. She grabbed water and Artemis and they spent the next 5 hours at a couple of friends' homes. (They came back after about 3 hours because the leak had been fixed but the house still stunk and it was noisy due to all the utility work going on.)
Some of the vehicles down our street. There were a number of firetrucks you can't see in the picture.

More vehicles on an adjacent street.

Still more vehicles as the firemen walk the streets trying to find the leak.

They dug up our yard in the process.

Gas line clamped and a few sprinkler lines cut. They did fix them after.

No gas to the house.

Final band concert of the year.
Megan and Matthew in symphonic band. Avery is the other trombonist. He has been in the kids' classes since kindergarten. He is moving on to a private school next year so we won't see his family as much. It is amazing how much the kids have grown up.

The kids worked for hours on their solo and ensemble pieces for band. Megan started practicing her solo piece in December and they started working on the other pieces in January. They were looking forward to performing them. Unfortunately, solo and ensemble was cancelled less than a week before it was supposed to happen. They were able to perform their ensemble piece at a piano recital. We were able to record their solo pieces with the piano accompaniment as well.

We did the Türkiye Yum box.

We went to the end of year robotics celebration where Matthew and Megan received a certificate from Dr. Flores, who was both their geometry teacher and one of the robotics coaches. Mr. Flores, her husband, is the robotics teacher and coach. The kids like to point out that they know where the Flores live: they discovered they live in our neighborhood when they went trick-or-treating at their house in 7th grade.

Megan leaving school on the last day of 8th grade. No, she did not see us.

Matthew got some more VEX stuff.

Our neighbors hosted a going away party for Mr. Aguero as he is moving to Washington State.

Safety Fair

Megan, Matthew and Me went to the Annual Safety Fair in downtown Chandler.

Matthew's feet could also reach the pedals if he sat far enough forward.
