On Friday we took a break from history and went to a place we had never even heard of until this year: Diggerland! For those of you who don't know what Diggerland is, it is a place where you can go and drive real, slightly modified construction equipment. There were a few other things to do as well. This was a real hit with all the kids. We had a great day.
U and Matthew driving a mini dumper.
Sarah enjoyed being tall enough to drive on her own.
Megan and Me driving a mini dumper.
This station let you use a digger to make real holes. It was interesting to figure out how to operate the digger. Here Matthew and Me work together to dig.
The Skyride lifted you up 55 ft into the air which gave a great bird's eye view of the park.
Me, Sarah and Matthew up in the Skyride.
Panoramic view of the park from the ride. Note the high ropes course on the left side. It is also 55 feet high.
U and Megan on the bucket carousel.
This ride is called the Spin Dizzy and is appropriately named.
Matthew and Me drive a small tractor.
Sarah really loved being able to drive so much, even if the cars were slow.
Me and Matthew round the bend.
Megan was super excited that she was big enough to drive some of the cars herself. Matthew is planning on eating more vegetables to grow taller for our next visit to Diggerland.
One of the kids' favorite things was the high ropes course. It was four stories high and had a variety of different obstacles to overcome. You were locked into a track so you couldn't fall but there is still something a little frightening about walking across a balance beam four stories off the ground without holding on to anything.
Me and Sarah on a lower level of the course.
Matthew and Megan on Level 3.
Sarah and Me on the top level.
Me watching Megan cross on the top level.
From the bottom looking up. Me is crossing on the third level and I think Sarah is waiting to cross on the second.
Sarah on a tricky segment.
Diggers come in all sizes. Matthew wore this smile almost all day.
Sarah really enjoyed the challenge of the climbing wall.
Matthew waiting to ride the Greased Beast. It is a dump truck that lifts you up as if it is dumping you out and then opens the door. U and Matthew were in the very front seats while the girls were in the very back.
The kids rode the barrel train.
There they go!
Matthew and U give a thumbs up for driving the work truck.
Finally a ride that Matthew could drive too. Sarah was bummed that she was too big for this one. The younger two rode this about half a dozen times. It was their favorite ride.
Ready to race.
U and Sarah take a selfie while Sarah drives the work truck. Don't worry, they were parked.
When she was driving, Sarah was all business.
Meanwhile the younger kids continued to drive.
Next we took the Excavator Express which took us on a loop at the back of the park.
There were a number of games of skill you could play on the mini-diggers. U is trying to knock down the bowling pins with a baseball.
8 and a half down!
Megan and Matthew concentrating hard at working the mini-diggers.
Me taking a shot at knocking the pins down.
Now she is trying to catch ducks (decoys) and pull them out of the water.
Matthew and Megan had lots of advice for each other on the best way to control the machines.
Another giant chair.
Matthew liked pretending he was digging on the little diggers.
Megan did too.
There was a station that let you pump water to race ducks down the pipes.
U and Megan on a tractor ride.
Me, Matthew and Sarah riding the tractor.
Megan loved driving the steam roller. She went back again and again to try to get better each time.
U and Matthew stopped to pose for a picture.
Sarah making the world flat.
Matthew got to take another turn with Me.
It isn't every day you see the World's Fastest Backhoe.
Matthew with the Diggerland mascot.
Me got to drive a full size backhoe with Megan and Matthew in the back.
Taking a spin in the Battle Truck.
We all rode the Ground Shuttle together.
Since we had now done everything in the park, we asked what the kids wanted to do again. The unanimous answer was the high ropes course.
The girls head up to a higher level.
Megan and Me crossing on different levels.
Megan wanted to drive again.
Sarah wanted another crack at the climbing wall and made it to the top of the hardest course.
Rappelling down.
Megan and Matthew taking a break on the playground.
We really enjoyed our day and the park wasn't very crowded at all. A very fun stop!
Sarah and Megan sleep peacefully together after a long day of play.
