Copenhagen Day 3: Roskilde, Church of Our Savior

Thursday morning, we ate breakfast and then headed to the train station.

Megan, Matthew and Me waiting for the train to Roskilde.

From the train station in Roskilde, we walked to the cathedral. I loved the yellows and reds of the buildings.

Cool gate.

The cathedral was really cool and we enjoyed wandering all around it.

Me and Megan gazing upward.

A building around the cathedral. Maybe the vicarage?

Some more photos of the cathedral from our walk around it.

From the cathedral, we wandered down to the Viking Ship Museum.

Another spring we saw on our way.

U showing some of the rope at the Viking Ship Museum (they had lots of different types with descriptions about when/where each type was used on a ship). Behind him, a lady is making a sail for a ship.

A reconstructed Viking ship.

Some more reconstructed ships.

The Viking Museum has 5 original Viking ships on display.
This is a huge cargo ship that could hold up to 20 tons and sail across the North Atlantic and as well as Baltic and North Seas.

This is a smaller trading boat that could hold around 4 tons of cargo and did not travel such great distances.

This is a longship that had around 30 men on its crew.

This is a much bigger longship that likely had a crew of 65-70 men. It may have been a chieftain's ship.

The ship on the left is the longship shown in the picture above. The ship on the right is likely a fishing vessel that was modified by adding a plank on each side resulting in the ship being able to carry more cargo.

We ate lunch at their cafe. Megan and Me shared the Viking platter, U had a smoked salmon sandwich and Matthew had a ham and cheese sandwich.

We then travelled back to Copenhagen to Church of Our Savior where we climbed the tower.

Ready for a tea party?

The church from the ground. It was pretty cool to be able to climb around the outside of the steeple.

We ate Belgian waffles and ice cream for dinner except for U who had a French toast grilled cheese. We then headed back to the hostel. U's step count for the day was 16.6 k.

Copenhagen Day 2: Tivoli

Wednesday morning, we got up, ate breakfast and then headed to Tivoli. It opened at 11 am which worked out well for our still jet-lagged sleep schedule. We had a fun day with lots of rides.

Our first ride was the Mine which is a ride on water where you shot at different targets.
Megan and U back, Me and Matthew front. We went down a little hill towards a waterfall for the picture which is why Me and Matthew ducked. However, the waterfall stopped as the ride vehicle went under it.

Next up was the Roller Coaster which was one of everyone's favorite rides (kids went on it 6 times each and parents went on it 5 times each). It opened in 1914 and is the oldest operating roller coaster in Europe (3rd oldest in the world). There is a nice wood burning smell from the manual braking.

We went on the Ferris Wheel and then the Star Flyer. We ended up waiting a very long time for that one due to issues with the ride. It is 80 m high and there are nice views over the park and Copenhagen. We later learned that the ride was operating at a slower speed than normal due to whatever issues it was having. Me enjoyed the slower speed as it was easier to take in the views.
Megan and U on the Milky Way Express. The ride photos were not working on this ride which is why there is no overlay. We all did go on the ride together which is pretty fast and goes around the track three times.

After eating lunch, we split up with Me and Megan going on the Astronomer (Dumbo-like ride) followed by the Roller Coaster.

Megan on the Galley Ships. Me and Megan rode on it once together and then Megan rode it by herself. It goes up and down very quickly.

U and Matthew went on the Aquila which they both liked. Then they went on Tik Tak where they spun all over the place and even went upside down once.

We all went on the Milky Way Express with U and Megan again lucking out on getting a picture.

U, Megan and Matthew went on the Music Carousel which is a two story carousel. Strangely, the horses do not go up and down even though they could.

Next up: Vintage Cars. (We all rode them but for some reason Matthew's picture did not show up.)

We then went on Dragon Boats which are cool as you can free drive them around the lake.

Ducks!

Megan and Me went on Camel Trail (a short roller coaster that you go around twice) and then the Classic Carousel. Megan is on the camel that we both rode.

U and Matthew on Golden Tower, which is a freefall from 63 m! They enjoyed it.

U, Megan and Matthew in line for the Monsoon. Fitting that it was raining at the time. (It rained off and on all afternoon. Sure glad we had our rain jackets!)

Up on the Monsoon.

We strolled through the gardens on our way to get dinner.

Fun birdhouses!

Dinnertime! Me got some yummy ramen and U enjoyed his bao and spring rolls. We also got yummy lemonade (ginger plus lime and passion plus mint).

Matthew enjoyed his pizza.

After dinner, we all went on the Roller Coaster twice.

Matthew enjoyed the Galley Ships.

U and Megan went on the Milky Way Express which did not give them a picture this time. We all went in the Fun House which had moving stairs, spinning floors and slides. It was fun to run around for a bit.
Beautiful peacock!

Me went to listen to a few concerts.
Meanwhile Megan and Matthew went on the Roller Coaster in the very front (hence the bar in the picture).

U, Megan and Matthew went on Aquila which they all enjoyed.
Matthew and Megan then went on Tik Tak.

They went upside down twice! I get sick just watching it.
