May Happenings

Here are some of the things that happened in May.

Mother's Day.

Matthew used popsicle sticks to say "Best Mom Ever." It's pretty impressive!

We celebrated 20 years since this happened.

We made beignets using Disney's recipe.

Megan and Matthew painted some village houses. And some other things in the process. Here Megan is making a silly face with some paint on her face.

Matthew riding U's bike and Megan on Me's bike. They were excited to ride bigger bikes that have multiple gears. Ever since this day, they would ride the bigger bikes when they could. Thankfully, we have now found them each their own bigger bike that fit them better than mom's and dad's so everyone has a good bike to ride. (Bikes were sold out everywhere so we found some used ones.)

We went camping in our backyard one weekend.

Treasure hunt activity. We gave the kids a key that helped them find the clues to discover what the treat was.

Megan found bird bones in the yard. She enjoyed looking at them and creating artistic arrangements.

Matthew enjoyed his end of year party. His teacher gave us all the items with instructions to give them to him at the beginning of the party. He had a nice time.

U used to hold Matthew like this a lot when he was a baby. Matthew has gotten a LOT bigger!

Megan has also grown a lot.

Sarah stopped by her friend Katie's house to wish her happy birthday.

We played Wii bowling and most of us got high scores. Matthew got 4 strikes in a row!!!

Spring Fling Part 2

Saturday morning, our neighborhood had their Spring Fling activity.  There were bounce houses, face painters and balloon artists along with hamburgers and snow cones.  It is starting to get pretty warm but we all had a good time.  There was also an Easter egg hunt which was fun for everyone.

The kids all enjoyed getting painted up.  Matthew only had a batman mask but that was pretty scary.

Megan ended up with her face and arm painted.  She was very sad when they had to be washed off before bed.

Sarah went back over and over to get more art.  She ended up with her face, neck and both arms done.

The balloon artists were amazing.  They could make you just about anything you wanted.

When he hears that fire alarm...

In early April, Sarah and Megan decided they were going to move Megan into Sarah's room. They did this, bed and all, while Me and I were still in bed. Matthew was so sad that Megan was not in his room anymore! To cheer him up, we asked if he wanted to make some decorating changes in his room. We couldn't build him a fire pole or the bed he wanted but we did decide to turn his bookshelf into a fire station.

Forgot to get a before picture. It was all that light green color. It had been that way since Sarah was a baby. This was after doing the grey and starting the red.

Everyone wanted to help! We learned that 4 people painting a bookshelf in the garage is too many!

After 3 coats, the red looks pretty even. The Helipad had been installed to allow the flight for life crew to be based here.

Now we need to make sure people can get from floor to floor. The only true way to do that of course is to install a fire pole. We assume that the firefighters all use it to go up as well.  We also installed bells on every floor to allow them to hear and respond.  The bottom shelves aren't going to have much on them so we can encourage books to go there.

Firefighters need things to do when not working so we put in some weights to make them strong and a couch to hang out on.

We also installed some beds and lockers.

What is that big white rectangle?

It is the city map!  The command center also has a new desk.  We also installed some axes and ladders.

The exterior of the building finally got some windows as well.

Every fire station needs some fancy front door. This station is station number 9, so named because it matches the station in the excellent book, Fireman Small.  

We also installed a chair at the operations desk.

To meet code, a fire escape was installed on the back side of the building.  What is that sign down at the bottom?

I'm not sure what he is running for but I would plan on voting for him.
