Visiting Mesquite

Sunday morning, we left Flagstaff to drive to Mesquite to visit Grandmo and Grandpo and Uncle Justin. We enjoyed a few days relaxing at their house, swimming in the warm pool (up to 87 degrees!), riding the ebikes, watching movies (including Seeking Persephone) and playing lots and lots of games. We went to see Hoppers in the movie theater. We brought Grandmo's and Grandpo's birthday gifts and enjoyed watching them open them.

Puzzle we got Grandmo for her birthday.

Megan and Matthew with their St. Patrick's Day find.

Beautiful flowers on cactus. They open in the morning and then close back up.

Me and Matthew on an ebike ride. Matthew really enjoyed the ebikes and went on rides with Me, Grandpo and Justin. He even went by himself!

Matthew. He loved diving for rings, sticks, etc.

We enjoyed playing Telestrations. Here are a couple of Megan's drawings.

Alaska Cruise Days 7 & 8: Prince William Sound, College Fjord

Friday was Matthew's half birthday. We gave him his main gift before we left home but brought a small present for him on the trip: strawberry altoids. He was excited. We spent most of the day at sea with some nice wildlife and scenery viewing opportunities. U and Me started out the day walking the promenade and then got breakfast in the International Dining Room. The food was not that different from what is available in the buffet.

The kids went swimming and U went to sauna.

We went to the culinary presentation which was quite funny.

We went to the promenade to see the entrance into Prince William Sound. The water was quite smooth before we entered the sound and become even more smooth in the sound. Quite different than Sunday when it had been somewhat rough.

Me, Allison and Emily

We stayed on deck for awhile to look for wildlife. We saw a lot of orcas--probably at least 10-15. It was like orca soup!

This male stayed above the water for quite awhile.

Orcas!

Megan, U and Matthew designed this contraption for the egg drop challenge.

Putting on the final touches.

They won the award for the best design.

Getting ready to drop it.

It had quite the fall.

As you can see in the video, the egg did not stay intact. However, it had a really clean getaway through the rubber bands which looked pretty cool. The yolk did not even break!

Rubber ducks were hidden around the ship. Megan found this one.

U and Me had dinner later as they wanted to be on deck when we entered College Fjord.

There are multiple glaciers with Harvard Glacier in the distance.

Wellesley Glacier

See the cave at the base of the glacier?

Cool iceberg

We saw some seals and also some sea otters.

Vassar Glacier

Further up Vassar Glacier

Bryn Mawr and Smith glaciers

Yale Glacier as seen from outside the inlet.

Harvard Glacier

We heard lots of creaking from Harvard Glacier and saw it calve at least 12 times. It was really cool! One time, a big section sloughed off the glacier. A bit later, another section came off of the same area. We were definitely mesmerized and just stood out there for as long as the ship was in front of the glacier. Here are two pictures of the calving.

Some pictures of Me and U enjoying being at Harvard Glacier.

We hurried to Vivaldi Dining room to eat before it closed.

It was super pretty on the other side as well!
