May 2021

May flew by. We started the month at the Grand Canyon and ended with Memorial Day. Noteworthy events included the end of school and Sarah's 16th birthday.

Sunshine exploring the treehouse Matthew made in library.

Yummy apple.

Sunshine says, "hi."

Yummy Mother's Day breakfast.

Cheese!

Matthew's Blokus 3D fortress, complete with sliding passageways and secret hideouts.

Subway at home. Matthew likes to pretend to work at Subway. He will make dinner for the whole family, folding the meat just like in the restaurant.

Yellow ship in Galaxy Trucker. Megan and Matthew have enjoyed playing with this game.

Sarah's 16th Birthday

Sarah turned 16! It is amazing how much she has grown up.

With her gifts and balloon. She received a CheezIt shirt and CheezIts, a frog tank and money.

Lucas and Sarah at YCs for the birthday dinner. (We were at an adjacent table.)

With her chocolate mousse dome.

Grand Canyon May 2021

Typically in 4th grade, there is a field trip to the Grand Canyon. However, with COVID-19 this year, that did not happen and so decided to head up on our own. We had a really nice time. Megan summed it up when she said, "We are at a desert Grand Canyon rugged landscape."

Sarah forgot to bring pants. She figured out that she could put her legs through the arms of a sweatshirt to improvise.

Sunrise the first morning around Mather Point.

Matthew and Megan joined Me for sunrise.

Here comes the sun.

Megan and Matthew discovered that they could fit between the poles on the shade structures and so often squeezed between them.

Sarah and Megan before we started down Bright Angel Trail.

Hiking down. We probably went a bit over a mile into the canyon.

U, Sarah, Me and Megan at the second tunnel.

Looking down into the canyon.

Matthew enjoyed taking the lead on the descent.

A couple of nice photos.

Silly face.

Look how far we've come!

After we hiked up out of the canyon, we took the red bus route to Pima Point and then hiked along the rim to Hermits Rest. Here are a few pictures of the Grand Canyon from along our trek.

We enjoyed sunset from Yavapai Point. It was spectacular!

Me, Matthew and U enjoying the show.

Megan and Sarah enjoying the reading.

For sunrise the next morning, U, Matthew and Me headed to Yavapai Point.

Matthew and Megan playing in a fort around our room. (We stayed at Yavapai Lodge.)

We walked the Trail of Time to 1 billion years.

Nice view of the Bright Angel Trail. We hiked down to the base of the lower cliff on Saturday.

U with one of the rock samples from along the Trail of Time. We enjoyed touching the rock samples of so many of the different layers.

Me with the Grand Canyon behind. We enjoyed figuring out the different layers of the canyon.

Interesting geological history of the Grand Canyon.

We enjoyed our time at the Grand Canyon!
