Fireworks!

We went to Clement Park to celebrate the 4th of July (on the 3rd, but that's a minor detail....) There were lots of sample booths where the kids picked up some candy and other little things. My dad and I managed to get a free chair massage. The weather was a bit precarious--spitting off and on and raining a bit harder for a short time. However, overall it was a beautiful evening. The highlight (and really the whole reason we went) was the fireworks. I love watching fireworks!  And this was a nice display. It was cute to hear Megan and Matthew--every time there was a blue/purple firework, Matthew would say, "Blue!" and Megan would say, "Purple." Not sure if they were trying to convince the other one that they had the correct color or just enjoying the fireworks themselves.

Matthew liked his star glasses.

Sarah with her patriotic headband. (Note that this came from grandma and grandpa's home. The things they collected at the park weren't quite that nice.)

Megan and Matthew liked their glow wands.

Dad and Megan.

The kids thought I looked nice with these glow sticks in my hair.

Probably my favorite part of the evening, besides the fireworks, was leaving. Now I know you're probably wondering why this would be my favorite part when there were probably a ton of cars all leaving at the same time, basically creating a big traffic jam. Well, there were a ton of cars and it did take awhile to leave, but I got to ride with my dad and he created comic relief. For instance, he would turn his car on, inch forward a few inches and then turn it off again. Once he finally got into the flow of traffic that was leaving, he decided that he'd just wait and so pulled into a different parking spot and turned off the car. As he sat there not moving, he was telling my mom to be aggressive in her driving (not that she could hear him and not that he was being aggressive in the least since we were parked). And then there was the radio that he'd turned on. We didn't completely hear anything as he kept flipping through channels. We heard a bit of analysis on the World Cup, some speculation about Peyton Manning being in the Hall of Fame and lots of bits of various songs. Not sure what he was looking for, but he didn't find it. Anyhow, he then decided we should be on our way and we actually left the parking lot fairly quickly because a random guy decided he was going to direct traffic. He was hilarious as well. He was standing on the sidewalk where the two parking lots merged before heading out to the main road. He was encouraging people to go in both the entrance and exit lanes, yelling, "Come on! Own it! That's what I'm talking about!" while directing the cars out of the parking lot. It was quite effective and quite funny. So I got my laughs for the day :) (Love you, dad!)

  1. Thanks for the write-up Melinda! I, of course, was the driver of the boring car and missed the comedy show.
