Great Lakes Day 8: Marquette

With more stormy weather in the forecast (and hence no boat tours), we headed up to Marquette to do some indoor activities.

Lots of wind and waves!

Rainbows and waves! It was cool to see the double rainbow.

We drove through Lakenenland Junkyard Art Display. It was neat to see all the things that have been constructed out of junk.

We went to the Marquette Maritime Museum.

Matthew noticed that these two Coston Guns belonged to Grandma O's brother Scott (not really-just the same name).

Lake Superior facts. It has 3 quadrillion gallons of water, which is enough to cover the Americas in 1 foot of water.

We took a tour of the Marquette lighthouse. It was very interesting and we learned a lot about Marquette, the Coast Guard, the Upper Peninsula (like they say that people on Central Time are lagging) as well as the lighthouse.

Where the Marquette foghorn used to be. One night, the Coast Guard demolished the foghorn by blowing it up. No one in town knew they were doing this. They were not amused.

We next went to the Children's Museum where Matthew did not (thankfully) lose his phone. Although it was misplaced for a bit until one of the workers found it.

We drove through Presque Isle Park where we had nice views of Lake Superior and the iron loading dock.

We figure this was encouraging us to enjoy our little lodging. It was quite cozy.

We ate Muldoon's pasties for dinner, played a few games and then watched a movie.
