Summer Travels 2019: Spearfish Canyon

Crossing into South Dakota.

Our hotel had a self-serve pancake machine that made fresh pancakes.

We headed into Spearfish Canyon Saturday morning after breakfast.
First waterfall of the day: Bridal Veil Falls.

Close up of the waterfall.

Spearfish Creek, the little creek that carved the canyon.

Some interesting rock formations.

The canyon was beautiful, with the green of the trees contrasting with the exposed stone.

Hummingbird enjoying some nectar.

Next, we hiked down to Spearfish Falls. It was a nice shaded trail.

Another view of the creek.

Me and Matthew crossing the creek.

Megan liked the flowers.

A robin! We love seeing robins, especially since we don't have them at home.

Butterfly.

Pretty flowers.

We then hiked to Roughlock Falls. It was a longer hike with varied topography including through some meadows.
Mushrooms!

Red Wing Blackbird

Interesting lichen and plant growth on the rock.

Me and Matthew on the trail. The girls were far ahead of us.

Nice view of the canyon.

Sisters!

Some of Roughlock Falls. This was definitely the biggest of the waterfalls. It was quite large with additional falls further up behind these falls.

Panoramic of the falls. See the additional falls in the background?

And yet more falls....

Colorful bug!
