Our next stop was the beautiful City Palace in the city centre of Jaipur. Many of the areas within the City Palace did not allow photos so we will tell you what we saw. There were lots of pictures of maharajas and Jaipur history. There was a textile exhibit that Grandma O would have loved that displayed, among other things, some clothes of Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I who was said to have been 2 m tall, 1.2 m wide and weigh 250 kg. There was a neat armory where Megan, Matthew and U were all entranced looking at the different weapons and armor displayed. Matthew especially liked the sword that had a gun built into it.

Sarah, Grandpa, Megan and Me with one of the two gigantic silver urns located here. They are the world's largest silver objects. Maharaja Madho Singh, a devout Hindu, used them to carry holy Ganges water to England for the coronation of Edward VII.

We saw a lot of monkeys at the City Palace. While we walked around the courtyard, they seemed to be following us (although they were up high). There were probably at least 30 of them. It was fun to watch them walk around.
An artist showed us how he makes his colors naturally from flowers, rocks, shells and soot. He took each of the items and made the different colors. It was especially interesting as we had talked about how to get different colors naturally in Art Masterpiece at school in September. He then drew us a picture.

On the way back to the van, we saw a ton of pigeons. (The people in the picture were feeding them.)
We then headed to the Albert Hall Museum. It was built for the visit of Prince Albert of England. It was initially used for conferences and then became the first museum of Jaipur in the late 1800s. It has a mish-mash of different exhibits including a mummy from Egypt, lace from Europe, pottery from Japan as well as local art and history. Everyone enjoyed wandering around the museum.
We needed to get out of the car so we stopped. In the middle of a roundabout. Cars went by us on both sides.

Matthew's favorite discovery was a "gurj" which is a mace. The ones he liked had a head that looked a cow and another like a human.

Yes, we can officially say that we saw "stuff" at a museum. (We think it's likely that it's a misspelled translation of "staff.") U likes that "Stuff" is clearly a sticker put on top of another word. Wonder what word was there initially.....

Once the museum closed, we went to Subway for dinner. One nice thing about Subway is that all of their vegetables are safe to eat. Yeah! U really enjoyed his tandoori chicken sandwich. Megan and Matthew wanted egg, ham (made from chicken, not pork) and cheese sandwiches. However, there was no egg and they wouldn't sell it to us without the egg so we paid quite a bit more for ham and cheese sandwiches.
We made the best of a rainy afternoon.
