India Day 4: Saturday morning and Gandhi Smriti

We woke up Saturday morning having slept better! Yeah! We had a yummy breakfast, talked with Grandma and Grandpa Bickmore and Aunt Sue on the computer and did some yoga.

The kids playing in grandma and grandpa's flat.

Priya Market near my parents' flat empty early in the morning.

After lunch, we headed out to the Gandhi Smriti, which is where Gandhi spent the last few months of his life. They had lots of information about Gandhi. It was very interesting! Of course we all squeezed into one uber to get there.

One of the many Gandhi quotes.

Gandhi's bed.

Table used for massage and doctor checks.

Where Gandhi worked and had meetings.. Notice the spinning wheel in the lower left corner. He made it a point to spin some yarn every day.

Gandhi and his wife, Kasturba. He was 13 and she was 14 when they married.

The museum had a hands on portion of the museum that the kids really enjoyed. Waving your hand through the circle created music.

Classic "see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil" statue. We saw these both in India and Japan.

World Peace Gong.

India of Gandhi's dreams.

Gandhi statue.

Lovely carving.

There are footprints showing Gandhi's last steps before he was assassinated. The pavilion marks where he was assassinated.

It's a good place to take a nap, too!

It was a great tribute to a remarkable man!

As a side note, central Delhi was much cleaner than other parts of Delhi. There are lots of trees lining the road and it has a very different feel than the rest of the city.

  1. If the only parts of Delhi you see are the tourist attractions, you don't know Delhi.
