Police Dogs

This past Saturday, we went to a program at the library about K9 dogs. This was a much anticipated event and we learned a lot about these dogs. For instance, there are lots of different types of dogs used with the police department and each dog has its strengths and weaknesses. Each of the three officers there had a different type of dog with the smallest weighing in around 45 pounds.

Megan petting one of the police dogs. This dog was the littlest of the bunch and was quite friendly; her officer has four kids and the dog does fine with all of them. In fact, the 5 year old bosses the dog around most of the time. (The muzzle was a precaution since there were a lot of kids around.)

At home, the younger two played police and police dog the rest of the day. Megan was quite happy running around on a leash while Matthew used her to catch various bad guys.

They even built a police car (or Matthew thought that maybe it was a boat since there weren't wheels) with dad's help.

Side view. Notice the trunk on the back of the vehicle. The trunk was essential so that there would be a place to keep all the police supplies.
