Preschool: Mirette on the High Wire

Last week, we studied Mirette on the High Wire. It's a cute story about a girl who meets Bellini, a famous high wire walker. She wants to be like him and so practices a lot to be able to walk on the high wire. She helps him overcome his fear of the highwire. Lots of good lessons in this story!

For activities, we created our own highwire (made out of a vertical blind that recently fell down) and the kids practiced walking across it. Then they tried hopping and balancing and various other poses. We did that pretty much every day. We also talked about how to master a skill and how to have courage to face our fears. We painted some watercolors, as that's the type of illustrations used in the book. We also did some circus math activities which the kids really enjoyed.
