Team picture day. Do you see Sarah?
With Renee and Ellee.
Our cute swimmer!
Yesterday was the first swim meet of the season. Sarah did really well. In freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke, her time was her best time ever and in backstroke, it was her second fastest time. Not bad considering the lack of swimming since last summer! Here are all of her times:
Freestyle: 41.18 seconds (first in heat)
Backstroke: 50.75 seconds (second in heat)
Breaststroke: 1 minute 1.71 seconds (second in heat)
Butterfly: 50.56 seconds (first in heat)
We definitely knew she was having an "on" day when she took off flying for her freestyle race. She won that heat by a few body lengths!
The placement in her heat is simply that. They don't group the kids by time, just by age. In a different heat, her placement may have been different. For instance, in breaststroke (which I timed, so I can compare her time to other heats), she was second in her heat. In other heats, she would have been first and there was one where she would have been 4th or 5th. So it really depends. It's why we like to look at times and how her time changes from meet to meet instead of placement within the heat. However, her time for butterfly was definitely one of the top times for 9-10 year old girls and it was faster than any of the 9-10 boys. She really loves that stroke and boy does she fly!
Getting ready for her first race. I love how serious she looks!
Swimming fast on freestyle.
Backstroke.
Starting her breaststroke.
See me timing in her lane? It was fun to be the one to time her last two races.
Start of butterfly.
Overall, a really good day at the pool!
Way to go, Sarah!
