Recently, Sarah created a newspaper for our little neighborhood:
She was very proud and wanted to make a lot of copies so she could sell it. In my head, I had pictured her doing a newspaper stand, like a lemonaid stand except with newspaper instead. She had other ideas, though: She wanted to go door-to-door. She even had hand-picked out some neighbors that she thought might be interested. And she was right. In the little time she had to sell it, she managed to make $2 plus get a piece of gum. She thinks the news business is great!
In other news, Sarah has started gymnastics. She LOVES it. And that might be an understatement. We figured it would be a good fit for her when she started doing hand stands all the time. Ok, so we've figured gymnastics would be a good fit for her for a long time. Maybe since she started diving out of daddy's arms and loving to swing around upside down which would be basically her whole life. And she has taken tumbling and gymnastics classes off and on, including one in June. However, this time she is taking a class in a gym with all the equipment which she likes. She is especially excited about the uneven bars and is forever wondering when she is going to get to go on them. She gets to do some exercises on a single bar but she wants to do the uneven ones! Every week after class, she tells us that she wants to go every day. And every day, she practices doing hand stands and cartwheels and back bends and such. She's even trying to walk on her hands. I think she spends as much time on her hands as on her feet!
When we asked Sarah what activities she wanted to be in at the beginning of the school year, she told us that she wanted to be in Lego Club. However, a week later when we were going to be signing her up for classes, she informed us that she didn't want to be in Lego Club. Why you ask? She found out what they did in Lego Club: They build with Legos. (Not quite sure what she thought they did.....)
Sarah is doing well in school. She likes her teacher and likes her class. One thing she has started doing, according to her, is writing in cursive. How does she write in cursive? She writes really fast and then she says it looks like cursive. (Note: it is also messy and very difficult to read. Probably a lot like some people's cursive:) ) She continues to devour books. She is looking on our bookshelves many days wanting to find good books to read. She really likes chapter books, although she likes it if they have some pictures. We do try to make sure that the books she reads are appropriate as she has been known to try at home what she reads about in books. (The newspaper business? That's from "Ivy + Bean: No News is Good News." I guess the good part of it is she learned from their experience that she shouldn't go snooping in neighbor's windows to find out what is going on with them and stuck to writing about the weather.)
Sarah loves being creative. Almost every morning, she created some sort of food entree to go along with our oatmeal. It's often a mixture of fruit that she prepares. This morning was blueberries with red and green grapes. She also likes building things. The other day, she decided that she was going to build herself a house with bark and leaves she collected. She even got out the Elmer's glue to stick it all together. Alas, our yard does not provide enough supplies to make a house. After making that discovery, she created a fort for herself in the tower. And she is forever making slides and play areas for Megan and Matthew in the family room. She is sure a fun kid to have around!!!
