A Bit About Sarah

Since I've been doing monthly updates about Megan and Matthew, I figured I'd do one with Sarah since she just had her birthday.  So here it goes.

Reading: Sarah has become quite the little reader in the past year.  It is fun to hear her read things as we are driving around like when she read "Jeep Wrangler" on a car and wanted to know what that meant.  Once the light turned green she answered the question herself--it means go fast (since the Jeep Wrangler was going faster than us).  She gets excited when she can understand things.  There are times when she only gets part of the message, though.  For example, when she went to go to the bathroom at the doctor's office, she came back to inform me that she couldn't use the toilet because it said "No Flushing."  I explained that the sign actually said no flushing things down the toilet (i.e., tampons and pads) and it was fine for her to flush after going potty.

Independent: Sarah has always been very independent and asks for what she wants.  I remember when we were at a restaurant when she was 2 and she wanted some more water.  We told her we'd ask our server.  However, she took things into her own hands by stopping the next employee who went by and asking for water.  That independence has certainly continued.  A recent example is when she needed to give a urine sample at the doctor.  She didn't want me in the bathroom and said she'd do it all by herself.  I was fine with that but the doctor told me (while I was waiting outside the bathroom) that she was concerned Sarah wouldn't be able to get a "clean catch" and wanted me to help.  However, Sarah was already done at this point.  There wasn't any need for concern either--she got a clean catch completely on her own.

Kindergarten:  Sarah had a fun year as a kindergartner.  She learned a lot and loves to tell us what she has learned about ants and butterflies and bugs.  Her favorite subjects are lunch and recess.  She tells Megan and Matthew about it all the time and tells them how much they will like it.  She has a lot of friends and the school is very diverse ethnically which is great. 

Good Friend: Sarah is a good friend.  She loves giving people hugs.  She can often sense when someone is having a hard time and will give them some extra loves.

Big Sister:  Sarah loves being a big sister.  For instance, this weekend, she helped feed Megan a bottle, helped change Megan and Matthew, rescued Megan from under the swing that kept hitting her in the head (Matthew was swinging in it) and comforted a very tired Matthew plus lots of playing with both of them.  Recently she asked me if when she grows up and is a mommy if Megan and Matthew will be her kids. Cute!

Good Memory: Sarah amazes us with her memory.  She is always talking about things that happened awhile ago.  Some recent memories include a chocolate fountain she got to dip stuff in at a wedding with grandma and grandpa (summer of 2009) and our white car like a police car (the Neon that we traded in March of 2008).  So if you ever promise Sarah something, it's best to follow through or she'll remind you of your promise!

Water Dichotomy: Sarah loves playing in water.  When she's outside, she will be playing in it (or mud).  She will be completely soaked and then wonder why we tell her she needs to change her clothes.  However, if she is washing her hands and gets even a little bit of water on her clothes, she believes she needs to immediately change!

Active:  Sarah has always been very active and athletic.  She recently told us that she is a tomboy because she likes things boys like (climbing trees, playing with rocks and sticks, etc).  (She also told us a boy who likes to play with Barbies is a tomgirl.)  She got a bike for Christmas and loves riding it all around.

We certainly feel blessed to have her in our home!!!
