Maritimes: PEI Day 1 Lighthouses and Beaches

Busy day on Prince Edward Island!

We drove to the Souris lighthouse which was super cute.

Matthew and Megan in the lighthouse.

They had this cool exhibit with sand and sea glass from all over the world. It was really neat to look at!

Some of the sea glass.

U, Megan, Matthew and Me with the old lens.

Ferry coming in from Îles de la Madeleine (part of Quebec but accessible by boat from PEI). We did hear quite a bit of French speaking.

Megan and Matthew with the light. It was neat that we got to go outside at the top of the lighthouse.

We went to Basin Head Provincial Park, aka singing sands beach. Certain parts of the beach sing (or squeak or woof) when you walk on them. We found the part to the left of the entrance made more noise.
Cute little shorebird.

Matthew helping with the natural process of erosion...

I love watching the ocean!

Calm area next to the beach.

We then drove to East Point Lighthouse. It was cool to see the waters of the Bay of St Lawrence, Northumberland Strait and the Atlantic Ocean meet. There was definitely churning water!

Matthew, U and Megan with the lighthouse and adjacent house. We did go in and climb to the top. It was built in 1867 and is known as the Confederation Lighthouse.

Megan and Me with the Shipwreck Point Lighthouse. We got to drive over a wooden bridge around the lighthouse which was cool.

We went to the Greenwich portion of PEI National Park where we hiked to the dunes. It was an enjoyable hike. The first part was by water. It was easy to imagine Anne and Diana out for a stroll. Then there was a boardwalk section and then the dunes.
Lots and lots of noisy geese by the boardwalk.

Matthew walking on the boardwalk.

Me and Matthew in the Parks Canada chairs.

Greenwich Beach

Matthew and Me with some of the dunes behind us. You will notice Matthew "sleeping" in a lot of the pictures. He would often sleep when we were driving in the car and so decided to assume that pose in the pictures as well.

Megan with some of the dunes that are closest to the boardwalk.

Me and Megan walking back from the beach. The trail was quite steep.

White church with cemetery.

We ate dinner at By the Bay in North Rustico. It was ok. During dinner, Me and Matthew were having a conversation via text all on Matthew's phone. After dinner, Me texted him asking why he was texting so much--ha ha!
U had a seafood sampler platter and Me had pan fried haddock loins.

Megan had grilled cheese and a salad.

Matthew had a cheeseburger and fries.

We drove through the Cavendish section of PEI National Park on our way home.
Me with a pretty section of coastline.

Me and Megan around sunset.

Cute teddy bears!

Me and U took a walk down to the beach from our cottage on this nice little trail. It felt very Anne-ish.
