Halloween 2020

Halloween felt a bit different this year. The tradition of pumpkin carving continued. However, instead of having a ward trunk or treat and doing a lot of trick-or-treating, we had some activities at home including a candy hunt (like an Easter egg hunt except with Halloween candy), a treasure hunt, a donut eating competition and a movie with caramel corn and candy corn. The kids did do some trick-or-treating in the neighborhood but not as many houses or kids were participating. It was fun to see the contraptions that people built to deliver candy at some of the homes. A favorite was where Yoda used the force to pull candy down a large track into the candy collecting container. The evening was quite pleasant and the partially cloudy sky with a full moon made for a nice ambiance.

Yummy caramel corn!

U with his pumpkin. The nose of his pumpkin is actually the bottom of the pumpkin. Just the very bottom was moldy so U came up with this creative solution to get rid of the mold.

Matthew with his pumpkin.

Lucas with his pumpkin that is literally throwing up its guts. (Notice the guts that fell right before the picture was taken?)

U explains the treasure hunt to the kids. It consisted of a series of clues and puzzles that they followed to find the candy treasure at the end. Everyone enjoyed the activity.

Sarah, Lucas, Megan and Matthew figuring out one of the clues.

Megan and Matthew during the donut eating competition.

Megan found a method that worked for her: she got underneath the donut and ate it from the bottom up.

Matthew moved his donut around by pushing it with his cheek. He also tried licking it with his tongue.

Sarah and Lucas before their competition.

Megan and Matthew in their dragon costume. Megan was the back and wings while Matthew was the front and arms. However, they discovered that it was really hard to walk this way and so for most of the night, Megan was a judge and Matthew was either a ninja or the dragon.

Minion and Gru. They thought this would be a funny match up since Lucas is so much taller than Sarah.

A couple pictures of the dragon head that U made. He received a lot of compliments on the coolness of it. Many people said it was the best costume they saw.
