Recent Happenings

We are in a kind of time vortex at the moment. With the social distancing and at home school, work and church due to COVID-19, we see very few people outside our immediate family and it is very easy to lose track of time. We have enjoyed being able to have more family activities especially in the evening since the kids' schoolwork is done during the day. Here are some pictures of recent happenings.

U decided to try out a new hairstyle.
A month later, Matthew decided to follow suit. This is halfway through the haircut.

Megan enjoys reading on her Kindle. We sure are glad we have Kindles for all the kids!

A snowman, Arizona style.

Wearing the masks Sandy made for us.

Sarah has worked on her selfie skills.

Megan's drawing explaining why she hoped our family could get a Chromebook. Thanks to U's entry and Megan's picture, we were chosen to receive one. Yeah! It actually is really helpful for the online schooling.

Matthew loves making creations with Tegu blocks.

Blokus 3D symmetry

Fits perfection. Megan fit all the pieces together in the prescribed space--it's quite the accomplishment!

One of the puzzles we've done.

Matthew has spent a lot of time building with Legos.

This fireman is eating a big bowl of oatmeal!

Rappelling from the ladder truck.

Matthew and Megan created a LEGO fighting game for us to play. It was kids versus parents. Guess who won? The parents!

Megan shows off the paper chain of books she has read since Spring Break.

Some days go better than others with the home schooling. This is Megan NOT wanting to do her work.

Visitors not welcome in Matthew's room.

May 1st, we had a flyover to recognize all the work of our healthcare providers and first responders. There were 7 F-34A fighters, 7 F-16 fighters and a KC-135 tanker. The flyover went right over our neighborhood!

Intel sent us some flowers.

May the 4th happened.

On May 8th, Megan, Matthew and Me saw a flyover in honor of the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII in Europe. There was a B-17 Flying Fortress, a B-25 Mitchell Bomber and a C-47 Skytrain. Unlike the flyover on May 1st, we didn't know this one was happening: we just happened to be on a bike ride at the time that the flyover happened.

Some memorable moments:

Me: right now, we are trying to get dinner cleaned up and laundry rotated so we can watch a movie.
Matthew: what movie?
Me: onward
Matthew: gets big smile on his face. Then he adds: “but I want to watch Sense and Sensibility”

Matthew: Did you guys know that a prophet rose from the sea?
Me: Like Nephi?
Matthew: No. Like “A Prophet” rose from the sea.
Me: Oh. Aphrodite!
(Megan and Matthew have been reading the Percy Jackson series of books and learning all about the Greek and Roman gods.)

U and Me were talking to Megan about something and so Matthew left. Megan called, "No eardropping outside the door!"

Me said something about Elder Holland and Megan perked up, “Ahtohallan?” That girl loves Frozen II.

Sarah: I hope they start school on my birthday. That would be the best birthday present ever!

  2. Those were the days when we had no idea how long this thing would go on...and we still don't.
