On Wednesday, we decided to hike to some waterfalls. Jon knew of a couple that were an appropriate level hike for everyone in DuPont State Forest in North Carolina. We planned to make a whole day of it and go to Caesar's Head and Table Rock State Parks in South Carolina as well.
All set to hike. Quincy, Jon, Megan, Matthew, Me, U, Kinley, Sarah, Aspen, Zach, Marci, Josie. (Note that all the males are wearing blue shirts. This was not intentional.)
Matthew was excited he could read the trail signs on his own.

The first waterfall was Triple Falls.
"What scenery? We have dirt that needs playing with!"
Grandma likes the waterfall. Quincy likes the ride.
Of course she was feeling a little sick and tired.

Megan rescued a small, green caterpillar that had fallen into the water. The leaf was to protect him from the sun and birds while he recovered.
Aspen and Megan were hiking buddies on the way back.
Despite what you may have been told, children grow in the heart of trees. We have evidence.

After the hikes, we drove to Caesar's Head State Park. We went to the overlook and there was a fantastic view of the valley 2000 feet below. Then it started to rain... We went into the ranger station to wait it out but it didn't let up much. This cancelled our plan to go swimming at Table Rock State Park.

If we couldn't swim in a lake, we could still go swimming in a pool. The Allens took us to their neighborhood pool and we had fun playing Marco Polo and swimming.

Afterward we went back to the Allens' house and played Tenzi.
People were so disappointed that we didn't go to Table Rock State Park on Wednesday that we went on Thursday. It didn't disappoint.
A family of geese was very interested in our lunch. The kids enjoyed chasing them away.

When we had to stop swimming because of thunder, the Arizona kids all had to get their umbrellas. Note that it is not raining.
