We've spent the past couple weeks studying
Make Way for Ducklings. We learned about Boston and watched a video that had the route Mrs. Mallard and the ducklings took when walking from the park to the Public Garden. They thought that was pretty neat and want to visit Boston. We discussed the Caldecott Medal and what it means and enjoyed looking at the detailed pictures. We learned about mallard ducks and went to the pond to feed the ducks (although there weren't any mallards there at the time). We did some math using manipulatives to figure out how many feet the ducks had, how many quacks there would be if each one quacked four times, etc. We talked about how different animals take care of their young and played an animal bingo game. We also did a rhyming activity where they picked out an object that rhymed with the word I said. It was a fun book to read!
Field trip to the duck pond.
Playing baby animal bingo. They really enjoyed it. Especially the animal cracker part.
And the policeman in that book were so helpful, as I remember! Love the smiling faces in the picts!
