1st week of preschool: Mr Gumpy's Motor Car

With the start of school comes the start of preschool for Megan and Matthew. This year, we are basing our curriculum on Five in a Row, where you read the same book every day for a week (or two for a lot of the books we are doing) and do different activities relating to the book. We're also supplementing with some math and language arts so they'll be ready for kindergarten next year.

For our first week, we read Mr. Gumpy's Motor Car. It's a cute story about a man who goes for a drive and lets a whole bunch of kids/animals in the car with him. The car gets stuck in the mud during a rainstorm and everyone has to get out to help push. We had some activities where we all worked together (like making sandwiches for daddy's lunch), learned about the parts of a story, learned about the difference between European and American license plates and talked about the water cycle.

Putting the clouds in water to see what happens (answer: it rains!).

Fun little experiment!
