A few weeks ago, we learned about the letter "w" and studied water. We did experiments with water in its various forms. In case you're wondering, liquid water makes a mess, but solid water (aka ice) does not. If you asked, they would tell you that when you boil water, it becomes a gas. They could also tell you that all water eventually ends up in the ocean. Our Bible story for the week was Jonah and the whale.
They were fascinated with our water bottle experiment. We poked little holes in a water bottle and then filled it with water. When the cap was on, the water didn't come out. When it was off, water came out.

Last week, we learned about the letter "d" and deserts. It was nice to be able to apply it to our everyday lives. For example, we read about cactus hotels (aka a saguaro cactus that animals take up residence in) and then went to look for some in our neighborhood. Everyday, they tell me when they see cactus hotels. It's very exciting, you know. Our Bible story was about John the Baptist living in the wilderness and baptizing Jesus.
We took a field trip to the cactus garden at the Mesa temple. The kids were super excited to see the cactus hotels. It was nice that Sarah could join us since she had the day off of school.

This past week, we've studied the letter "n" and names. We learned the meaning of our names and did some activities with them. We had a cheer where we'd spell each of our names. Our Bible story was about Jesus calling the 12 Apostles. Matthew really likes that one of them has his name. Between the two of them, they could name 8-10 of the original 12 apostles.
Yes, the letter of the week was "n" but their names start with an "m"....
What fun activities--and I just read that Cactus Hotel book and learned some things I never knew about Sahuaro cacti--even though I graduated from Sahauro High School!
ReplyDeleteI remember a young woman by the name of Melinda telling me she wasn't creative. I am pretty sure that can't be you as you are incredibly creative. The teaching you are doing is amazing and very imaginative.
