Megan Moments

Here's a brief Megan update. She's doing well. One of her current pleasures is seeing where she can climb to, often with the assistance of the little white ride on car. This makes life very interesting especially since a second pleasure seems to be seeing what she can reach once she's climbed somewhere. Let's just say there is a lot of rearranging going on in our house.

Megan has turned into a bit of a momma's girl. She's still relatively easy going and will go to most people. However, given a choice, she generally wants mom. She'll often come up to me and give me a great big hug. (She'll often do this on request, too, which is great--I just ask for a "big Megan love" and I get one.) 

Megan is continuing to expand her communication skills. Recent new signs are "cracker" and "sad." (The other day, she kept signing "sad" over and over. I guess she was having a hard day. Good thing she gave lots of big loves!) Besides "mama," "dada," "Sarah," and "Matthew," Megan also says "thank you," "hi," "amen," and, Sarah's favorite, "uh oh." She is very proud of that fact that when we do a seat belt check in the car, she says "check" for herself.

We've always called Megan our little tinker/explorer and that's definitely still true. One consequence of this is that she can be very intent on what she's doing and is not easily distracted. Now we can discuss the merits of this and how beneficial it will be for her and how she'll be good at finishing what she's started, etc, etc, etc. Yes, there are lots of good qualities about this. However, distraction is a key discipline technique with toddlers that doesn't seem to work so well with her. For example, she'll be intently emptying the silverware drawer and I'll distract her by bringing her into the other room to play with a toy, only to find her back in the kitchen a couple minutes later continuing her work on the silverware. (Big sigh!)

Megan loves sitting in our rocking chairs. She climbs up into it all by herself and will sit there for a long time. (Maybe I should move one down in the family room. It might save some silverware:) ) Megan also likes playing with cars.

Why settle for one pacifier when you can have two???
